Psalms 35:20

For they do not try to make peace with others, ¹  but plan ways to deceive those who are unsuspecting. ² 

They do not speak peaceably, but devise false accusations against those who live quietly in the land.

For they do not speak peace, But they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.

They don’t talk of peace; they plot against innocent people who are minding their own business.

No good is going to come from that crowd; They spend all their time cooking up gossip against those who mind their own business.

For they do not say words of peace; in their deceit they are designing evil things against the quiet ones in the land.

For they do not speak peace, but they conceive deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.

For they do not speak peace, But they devise deceitful matters Against the quiet ones in the land.

For they do not try to make peace with others, ¹  but plan ways to deceive those who are unsuspecting. ² 

¹ tn Heb “for they do not speak peace.”

² tn Heb “but against the quiet ones of the land words of deceit they plan.” The imperfect verbal forms in v. 20 highlight their characteristic behavior.
