Proverbs 8:5

You who are naive, discern ¹  wisdom! And you fools, understand discernment! ² 

You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding.

"O naive ones, understand prudence; And, O fools, understand wisdom.

How naive you are! Let me give you common sense. O foolish ones, let me give you understanding.

Listen, you idiots--learn good sense! You blockheads--shape up!

Become expert in reason, O you simple ones; you foolish ones, take training to heart.

O simple ones, learn prudence; acquire intelligence, you who lack it.

O you simple ones, understand prudence, And you fools, be of an understanding heart.

You who are naive, discern ¹  wisdom! And you fools, understand discernment! ² 

¹ tn The imperative of בִּין (bin) means “to understand; to discern.” The call is for the simple to understand what wisdom is, not just to gain it.

² tn Heb “heart.” The noun לֵב (lev, “heart”) often functions metonymically for wisdom, understanding, discernment.
