Proverbs 4:2

Because I give ¹  you good instruction, ²  do not forsake my teaching.

I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.

For I give you sound teaching; Do not abandon my instruction.

for I am giving you good guidance. Don’t turn away from my teaching.

I'm giving you good counsel; don't let it go in one ear and out the other.

For I give you good teaching; do not give up the knowledge you are getting from me.

for I give you good precepts: do not forsake my teaching.

For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law.

Because I give ¹  you good instruction, ²  do not forsake my teaching.

¹ tn The perfect tense has the nuance of instantaneous perfect; the sage is now calling the disciples to listen. It could also be a perfect of resolve, indicating what he is determined to do.

² tn The word לֶקַח (leqakh, “instruction”) can be subjective (instruction acquired) or objective (the thing being taught). The latter fits best here.
