Luke 22:20

And in the same way he took ¹  the cup after they had eaten, ²  saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant ³  in my blood.

In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.

After supper he took another cup of wine and said, "This wine is the token of God’s new covenant to save you––an agreement sealed with the blood I will pour out for you.

He did the same with the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant written in my blood, blood poured out for you.

And in the same way, after the meal, he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new testament, made with my blood which is given for you.

And he did the same with the cup after supper, saying, "This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.

Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

And in the same way he took ¹  the cup after they had eaten, ²  saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant ³  in my blood.

¹ tn The words “he took” are not in the Greek text at this point, but are an understood repetition from v. 19.

² tn The phrase “after they had eaten” translates the temporal infinitive construction μετὰ τὸ δειπνῆσαι (meta to deipnhsai), where the verb δειπνέω (deipnew) means “to eat a meal” or “to have a meal.”

³ sn Jesus’ death established the forgiveness promised in the new covenant of Jer 31:31. Jesus is reinterpreting the symbolism of the Passover meal, indicating the presence of a new era.
