Luke 19:36

As ¹  he rode along, they ²  spread their cloaks on the road.

As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

As He was going, they were spreading their coats on the road.

Then the crowds spread out their coats on the road ahead of Jesus.

As he rode, the people gave him a grand welcome, throwing their coats on the street.

And while he went on his way they put their clothing down on the road in front of him.

¹ tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

² tn The disciples initiated this action (since in 19:35 and 37 they are the subject) but the other gospels indicate the crowds also became involved. Thus it is difficult to specify the referent here as “the disciples” or “people.”
