Luke 1:21

Now ¹  the people were waiting for Zechariah, and they began to wonder ²  why he was delayed in the holy place. ³ 

Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple.

The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple.

Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah to come out, wondering why he was taking so long.

Meanwhile, the congregation waiting for Zachariah was getting restless, wondering what was keeping him so long in the sanctuary.

And the people were waiting for Zacharias and were surprised because he was in the Temple for such a long time.

Meanwhile the people were waiting for Zechariah, and wondered at his delay in the sanctuary.

And the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he lingered so long in the temple.

Now ¹  the people were waiting for Zechariah, and they began to wonder ²  why he was delayed in the holy place. ³ 

¹ tn Grk “And.” Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a new topic.

² tn The imperfect verb ἐθαύμαζον (eqaumazon) has been translated as an ingressive imperfect.
