John 6:34

So they said to him, “Sir, ¹  give us this bread all the time!”

"Sir," they said, "from now on give us this bread."

Then they said to Him, "Lord, always give us this bread."

"Sir," they said, "give us that bread every day of our lives."

They jumped at that: "Master, give us this bread, now and forever!"

Ah, Lord, they said, give us that bread for ever!

They said to him, "Sir, give us this bread always."

Then they said to Him, "Lord, give us this bread always."

So they said to him, “Sir, ¹  give us this bread all the time!”

¹ tn Or “Lord.” The Greek κύριος (kurios) means both “Sir” and “Lord.” In this passage it is not at all clear at this point that the crowd is acknowledging Jesus as Lord. More likely this is simply a form of polite address (“sir”).
