Genesis 50:23

Joseph saw the descendants of Ephraim to the third generation. ¹  He also saw the children of Makir the son of Manasseh; they were given special inheritance rights by Joseph. ² 

and saw the third generation of Ephraim’s children. Also the children of Makir son of Manasseh were placed at birth on Joseph’s knees.

Joseph saw the third generation of Ephraim’s sons; also the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born on Joseph’s knees.

He lived to see three generations of descendants of his son Ephraim and the children of Manasseh’s son Makir, who were treated as if they were his own.

He lived to see Ephraim's sons into the third generation. The sons of Makir, Manasseh's son, were also recognized as Joseph's.

And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation: and the children of Machir, the son of Manasseh, came to birth on Joseph’s knees.

Joseph saw Ephraim’s children to the third generation . The children of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were also brought up on Joseph’s knees.

Joseph saw the descendants of Ephraim to the third generation. ¹  He also saw the children of Makir the son of Manasseh; they were given special inheritance rights by Joseph. ² 

¹ tn Heb “saw Ephraim, the children of the third.”

² tn Heb “they were born on the knees of Joseph.” This expression implies their adoption by Joseph, which meant that they received an inheritance from him.
