Genesis 34:27

Jacob’s sons killed them ¹  and looted the city because their sister had been violated. ² 

The sons of Jacob came upon the dead bodies and looted the city where their sister had been defiled.

Jacob’s sons came upon the slain and looted the city, because they had defiled their sister.

Then all of Jacob’s sons plundered the town because their sister had been defiled there.

When the rest of Jacob's sons came on the scene of slaughter, they looted the entire city in retaliation for Dinah's rape.

¹ tn Heb “came upon the slain.” Because of this statement the preceding phrase “Jacob’s sons” is frequently taken to mean the other sons of Jacob besides Simeon and Levi, but the text does not clearly affirm this.

² tn Heb “because they violated their sister.” The plural verb is active in form, but with no expressed subject, it may be translated passive.
