2 Samuel 8:14

He placed garrisons throughout Edom, ¹  and all the Edomites became David’s subjects. The Lord protected David wherever he campaigned.

He put garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The LORD gave David victory wherever he went.

He put garrisons in Edom. In all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And the LORD helped David wherever he went.

He placed army garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites became David’s subjects. This was another example of how the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.

David set up a puppet government in Edom, and the Edomites became subjects under David. GOD gave David victory wherever he marched.

And he put armed forces in Edom; all through Edom he had armed forces stationed, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And the Lord made David overcome wherever he went.

¹ tc The MT is repetitious here: “He placed in Edom garrisons; in all Edom he placed garrisons.” The Vulgate lacks “in all Edom”; most of the Greek tradition (with the exception of the Lucianic recension and the recension of Origen) and the Syriac Peshitta lack “he placed garrisons.” The MT reading appears here to be the result of a conflation of variant readings.
