For the music director; a psalm of David. O Lord, rescue me from wicked men! ²  Protect me from violent men, ³ 

A violent person ¹  entices ²  his neighbor, and leads him down a path that is terrible. ³ 

Do not envy a violent man, ¹  and do not choose to imitate ²  any of his ways;

As for the actions of people ¹  – just as you have commanded, I have not followed in the footsteps of violent men. ² 

The earth is broken in pieces, the earth is ripped to shreds, the earth shakes violently. ¹ 

“Suppose such a man has ¹  a violent son who sheds blood and does any of these things ²  mentioned previously

not a drunkard, not violent, but gentle, not contentious, free from the love of money.

He delivers me from my enemies; ¹  you snatch me away ²  from those who attack me; ³  you rescue me from violent men.

He delivers me ¹  from my enemies; you snatch me away ²  from those who attack me; ³  you rescue me from violent men.

O Lord, shelter me from the power ¹  of the wicked! Protect me from violent men, who plan to knock me over. ² 

A slanderer ¹  will not endure on ²  the earth; calamity will hunt down a violent man and strike him down. ³ 

From ¹  the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and forceful people lay hold of it. ² 

The next day, because we were violently battered by the storm, ¹  they began throwing the cargo overboard, ² 

O God, arrogant men attack me; ¹  a gang ²  of ruthless men, who do not respect you, seek my life. ³ 

For the overseer ¹  must be blameless as one entrusted with God’s work, ²  not arrogant, not prone to anger, not a drunkard, not violent, not greedy for gain.

Watch my enemies, for they outnumber me; they hate me and want to harm me. ¹ 

Men ¹  move boundary stones; they seize the flock and pasture them. ² 

Not long after this, a hurricane-force ¹  wind called the northeaster ²  blew down from the island. ³ 

Suddenly ¹  a sound ²  like a violent wind blowing ³  came from heaven ⁴  and filled the entire house where they were sitting.

Isaac began to shake violently ¹  and asked, “Then who else hunted game and brought it to me? I ate all of it just before you arrived, and I blessed him. ²  He will indeed be blessed!”
