The Kishon River carried them off; the river confronted them ¹  – the Kishon River. Step on the necks of the strong! ² 

Who carves out a channel for the heavy rains, and a path for the rumble of thunder,

The waves ¹  of death engulfed me, the currents ²  of chaos ³  overwhelmed me. ⁴ 

The water would have overpowered us; the current ¹  would have overwhelmed ²  us. ³ 

The waves of death engulfed me; the currents ¹  of chaos ²  overwhelmed me. ³ 

as water wears away stones, and torrents ¹  wash away the soil, ²  so you destroy man’s hope. ³ 

My brothers ¹  have been as treacherous ²  as a seasonal stream, ³  and as the riverbeds of the intermittent streams ⁴  that flow away. ⁵ 

Benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai from the wadis of Gaash,

and throw ¹  your gold ²  in the dust – your gold ³  of Ophir among the rocks in the ravines –

so that they had to live ¹  in the dry stream beds, ²  in the holes of the ground, and among the rocks.

You broke open the spring and the stream; ¹  you dried up perpetually flowing rivers. ² 

“Look! Enemies are gathering in the north like water rising in a river. ¹  They will be like an overflowing stream. They will overwhelm the whole country and everything in it like a flood. They will overwhelm the cities and their inhabitants. People will cry out in alarm. Everyone living in the country will cry out in pain.

His battle cry overwhelms like a flooding river ¹  that reaches one’s neck. He shakes the nations in a sieve that isolates the chaff; ²  he puts a bit into the mouth of the nations and leads them to destruction. ³ 

He is like a man ¹  building a house, who dug down deep, ²  and laid the foundation on bedrock. When ³  a flood came, the river ⁴  burst against that house but ⁵  could not shake it, because it had been well built. ⁶ 

But the person who hears and does not put my words into practice ¹  is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When ²  the river burst against that house, ³  it collapsed immediately, and was utterly destroyed!” ⁴ 

He will not look on the streams, ¹  the rivers, which are the torrents ²  of honey and butter. ³ 

O Lord, restore our well-being, just as the streams in the arid south are replenished. ¹ 

The sluice gates ¹  are opened; the royal palace is deluged ²  and dissolves. ³ 

Tell the ones who coat it with whitewash that it will fall. When there is a deluge of rain, hailstones ¹  will fall and a violent wind will break out. ² 

I will judge him with plague and bloodshed. I will rain down on him, his troops and the many peoples who are with him a torrential downpour, hailstones, fire, and brimstone.
