Once and for all I have vowed by my own holiness, I will never deceive 1 David.
The Lord said, 1 “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise on oath to David, my servant:
The Lord confirms this oath 1 by the arrogance of Jacob: 2 “I swear 3 I will never forget all you have done! 4
The Lord makes this promise on oath 1 and will not revoke it: 2 “You are an eternal priest 3 after the pattern of 4 Melchizedek.” 5
I have vowed and solemnly sworn to keep your just regulations.
The Lord who rules over all 1 has solemnly sworn, 2 ‘I will fill your land with enemy soldiers. They will swarm over it like locusts. 3 They will raise up shouts of victory over it.’
God will severely judge Abner 1 if I do not do for David exactly what the Lord has promised him, 2
But those in Jerusalem 1 will view it as a false omen. They have sworn solemn oaths, 2 but the king of Babylon 3 will accuse them of violations 4 in order to seize them. 5
The sovereign Lord confirms this oath by his own holy character: 1 “Certainly the time is approaching 2 when you will be carried away 3 in baskets, 4 every last one of you 5 in fishermen’s pots. 6
The Israelites did not attack them because the leaders of the community had sworn an oath to them in the name of the Lord God of Israel. 1 The whole community criticized 2 the leaders,
Whenever they went out to fight, 1 the Lord did them harm, 2 just as he had warned and solemnly vowed he would do. 3 They suffered greatly. 4
How can we find wives for those who are left? 1 After all, we took an oath in the Lord’s name not to give them our daughters as wives.”
1 The Lord who commands armies makes this solemn vow: “Be sure of this: Just as I have intended, so it will be; just as I have planned, it will happen.
but all the leaders told the whole community, “We swore an oath to them in the name of 1 the Lord God of Israel. So now we can’t hurt 2 them!
But we can’t allow our daughters to marry them, 1 for the Israelites took an oath, saying, ‘Whoever gives a woman to a Benjaminite will be destroyed!’ 2
For I solemnly swear,” 1 says the Lord, “that Bozrah 2 will become a pile of ruins. It will become an object of horror and ridicule, an example to be used in curses. 3 All the towns around it will lie in ruins forever.”
So then, because 1 he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants 2 on his throne, 3
“As far as I am concerned, this is like in Noah’s time, 1 when I vowed that the waters of Noah’s flood 2 would never again cover the earth. In the same way I have vowed that I will not be angry at you or shout at you.
The sovereign Lord confirms this oath by his very own life. 1 The Lord, the God who commands armies, is speaking: “I despise Jacob’s arrogance; I hate their 2 fortresses. I will hand over to their enemies 3 the city of Samaria 4 and everything in it.”
It is not with you alone that I am making this covenant by oath,
