For your arrows pierce ¹  me, and your hand presses me down. ² 

The nations fell ¹  into the pit they had made; their feet were caught in the net they had hidden. ² 

ט (Tet) Her city gates have fallen ¹  to the ground; he smashed to bits ²  the bars that lock her gates. ³  Her king and princes were taken into exile; ⁴  there is no more guidance available. ⁵  As for her prophets, they no longer receive ⁶  a vision from the Lord.

On what ¹  were its bases ²  set, or who laid its cornerstone –

Now you are wrecked by the seas, in the depths of the waters; your merchandise and all your company have sunk ¹  along with you. ² 

The chariots of Pharaoh ¹  and his army he has thrown into the sea, and his chosen ²  officers were drowned ³  in the Red Sea.

All the women who are left in the royal palace of Judah will be led out to the officers of the king of Babylon. They will taunt you saying, ¹  ‘Your trusted friends misled you; they have gotten the best of you. Now that your feet are stuck in the mud, they have turned their backs on you.’ ² 

They have sunk deep into corruption ¹  as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their wrongdoing. He will repay them for their sins.

For we lie in the dirt, with our bellies pressed to the ground. ¹ 

You place me in the lowest regions of the pit, ¹  in the dark places, in the watery depths.

The businessmen love to cheat; ¹  they use dishonest scales. ² 

Jehu aimed his bow and shot an arrow right between Jehoram’s shoulders. ¹  The arrow went through ²  his heart and he fell to his knees in his chariot.

Then ¹  one powerful angel picked up a stone like a huge millstone, threw it into the sea, and said, “With this kind of sudden violent force ²  Babylon the great city will be thrown down ³  and it will never be found again!

When the people cried to Moses, he ¹  prayed to the Lord, and the fire died out. ² 

My offenses would be sealed up ¹  in a bag; ²  you would cover over ³  my sin.

May the Lord be constantly aware of them, ¹  and cut off the memory of his children ²  from the earth!

Those who revolt are knee-deep in slaughter, ¹  but I will discipline them all. ² 

The well which the princes ¹  dug, which the leaders of the people opened with their scepters and their staffs.” And from the wilderness they traveled to Mattanah;

I sink into the deep mire where there is no solid ground; ¹  I am in ²  deep water, and the current overpowers me.

The bravehearted ¹  were plundered; ²  they “fell asleep.” ³  All the warriors were helpless. ⁴
