After instructing the crowd to sit down on the ground,

(Now Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there, opposite the tomb.)

Now some of the experts in the law ¹  were sitting there, turning these things over in their minds: ² 

I hate the mob ¹  of evil men, and do not associate ²  with the wicked.

So she sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city,

Watch them from morning to evening; ¹  I am the object of their mocking songs.

God reigns ¹  over the nations! God sits on his holy throne!

“The ¹  experts in the law ²  and the Pharisees ³  sit on Moses’ seat.

Boaz chose ten of the village leaders ¹  and said, “Sit down here!” So they sat down.

Yet all of this fails to satisfy me so long as I have to see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”

The Lord sits enthroned over the engulfing waters, ¹  the Lord sits enthroned ²  as the eternal king.

They said to him, “Please sit down and read it to us.” So Baruch sat down and read it to them. ¹ 

Then ¹  they went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus ²  said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”

Furthermore, Solomon has assumed the royal throne. ¹ 

So they did as Jesus directed, ¹  and the people ²  all sat down.

“Fall down! Sit in the dirt, O virgin ¹  daughter Babylon! Sit on the ground, not on a throne, O daughter of the Babylonians! Indeed, ²  you will no longer be called delicate and pampered.

“‘Any bed the man with a discharge lies on will be unclean, ¹  and any furniture he sits on will be unclean. ² 

Anything she lies on during her menstruation will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean.

You who ride on light-colored female donkeys, who sit on saddle blankets, ¹  you who walk on the road, pay attention!

“Sit silently! Go to a hiding place, ¹  O daughter of the Babylonians! Indeed, ²  you will no longer be called ‘Queen of kingdoms.’
