In all hard work ¹  there is profit, but merely talking about it ²  only brings ³  poverty. ⁴ 

“Is it to God that a strong man is of benefit? Is it to him that even a wise man is profitable? ¹ 

Treasures gained by wickedness ¹  do not profit, but righteousness ²  delivers from mortal danger. ³ 

Wealth does not profit in the day of wrath, ¹  but righteousness delivers from mortal danger. ² 

Who forms a god and casts an idol that will prove worthless? ¹ 

What benefit can a worker ¹  gain from his toil? ² 

For her ¹  benefit ²  is more profitable ³  than silver, and her ⁴  gain ⁵  is better ⁶  than gold.

For he says, ‘It does not profit a man when he makes his delight with God.’ ¹ 

The produce of the land is seized ¹  by all of them, even the king is served ²  by the fields. ³ 

I will denounce your so-called righteousness and your deeds, ¹  but they will not help you.

You must not lend him your money at interest and you must not sell him food for profit. ¹ 

But you say, ‘What will it profit you,’ ¹  and, ‘What do I gain by not sinning?’ ² 

For what benefit is it for a person ¹  to gain the whole world, yet ²  forfeit his life?

all will be put to shame ¹  because of a nation that cannot help them, who cannot give them aid or help, but only shame and disgrace.”

Who is the Almighty, that ¹  we should serve him? What would we gain if we were to pray ²  to him?’ ³ 

For what does it benefit a person ¹  if he gains the whole world but loses or forfeits himself?

“What ¹  profit is there in taking my life, ²  in my descending into the Pit? ³  Can the dust of the grave ⁴  praise you? Can it declare your loyalty? ⁵ 

“‘But just look at you! ¹  You are putting your confidence in a false belief ²  that will not deliver you. ³ 

You should not turn aside after empty things that can’t profit and can’t deliver, since they are empty. ¹ 

just as I also try to please everyone in all things. I do not seek my own benefit, but the benefit ¹  of many, so that they may be saved.
