The waters prevailed over ¹  the earth for 150 days.

In this way the word of the Lord ¹  continued to grow in power ²  and to prevail. ³ 

But they were insistent, ¹  demanding with loud shouts that he be crucified. And their shouts prevailed.

Whenever Moses would raise his hands, ¹  then Israel prevailed, but whenever he would rest ²  his hands, then Amalek prevailed.

While I was watching, that horn began to wage war against the holy ones and was defeating ¹  them,

Rise up, Lord! ¹  Don’t let men be defiant! ²  May the nations be judged in your presence!

“Since my youth they have often attacked me, but they have not defeated me.

The waters rose more than twenty feet ¹  above the mountains. ² 

He watches over ¹  his holy ones, ²  but the wicked are made speechless in the darkness, for it is not by one’s own strength that one prevails.

The waters completely inundated ¹  the earth so that even ²  all the high mountains under the entire sky were covered.

Distress and anguish ¹  terrify him; they prevail against him like a king ready to launch an attack, ² 

Our record of sins overwhelms me, ¹  but you forgive ²  our acts of rebellion.

They will attack you but they will not be able to overcome you, for I will be with you to rescue you,” says the Lord.

“No longer will your name be Jacob,” the man told him, ¹  “but Israel, ²  because you have fought ³  with God and with men and have prevailed.”

If he is able to fight with me and strike me down, we will become your servants. But if I prevail against him and strike him down, you will become our servants and will serve us.”

¹ David prevailed over the Philistine with just the sling and the stone. He struck down the Philistine and killed him. David did not even have a sword in his hand. ² 

He struggled ¹  with an angel and prevailed; he wept and begged for his favor. He found God ²  at Bethel, ³  and there he spoke with him! ⁴ 

But ¹  the dragon was not strong enough to prevail, ²  so there was no longer any place left ³  in heaven for him and his angels. ⁴ 

The waters completely overwhelmed ¹  the earth, and the ark floated ²  on the surface of the waters.

Lord, you coerced me into being a prophet, and I allowed you to do it. You overcame my resistance and prevailed over me. ¹  Now I have become a constant laughingstock. Everyone ridicules me.
