Therefore, cleanse ¹  your heart and stop being so stubborn! ² 

I gave them over to their stubborn desires; ¹  they did what seemed right to them. ² 

Listen to me, you stubborn people, ¹  you who distance yourself from doing what is right. ²

But King Sihon of Heshbon was unwilling to allow us to pass near him because the Lord our ¹  God had made him obstinate ²  and stubborn ³  so that he might deliver him over to you ⁴  this very day.

Understand, therefore, that it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is about to give you this good land as a possession, for you are a stubborn ¹  people!
