The Lord abhors ¹  differing weights, and dishonest scales are wicked. ² 

The businessmen love to cheat; ¹  they use dishonest scales. ² 

These you may eat from among water creatures: anything with fins and scales you may eat,

“Oh, ¹  if only my grief ²  could be weighed, ³  and my misfortune laid ⁴  on the scales too! ⁵ 

let him ¹  weigh me with honest ²  scales; then God will discover ³  my integrity.

The Lord abhors ¹  dishonest scales, ²  but an accurate weight ³  is his elight.

I do not condone the use of rigged scales, or a bag of deceptive weights. ¹ 

I will put hooks in your jaws and stick the fish of your waterways to your scales. I will haul you up from the midst of your waterways, and all the fish of your waterways will stick to your scales.

Any creature in the water that does not have both fins and scales is detestable to you.

but whatever does not have fins and scales you may not eat; it is ritually impure to you.

Honest scales and balances ¹  are from the Lord; all the weights ²  in the bag are his handiwork.

Immediately ¹  something like scales ²  fell from his eyes, and he could see again. He ³  got up and was baptized,

Men are nothing but a mere breath; human beings are unreliable. ¹  When they are weighed in the scales, all of them together are lighter than air. ² 

Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales. He lifts ¹  the coastlands ²  as if they were dust.

“‘These you can eat from all creatures that are in the water: Any creatures in the water that have both fins and scales, ¹  whether in the seas or in the streams, ²  you may eat.

Who has measured out the waters ¹  in the hollow of his hand, or carefully ²  measured the sky, ³  or carefully weighed ⁴  the soil of the earth, or weighed the mountains in a balance, or the hills on scales? ⁵ 

But any creatures that do not have both fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the streams, from all the swarming things of the water and from all the living creatures that are in the water, are detestable to you.

“As for you, son of man, take a sharp sword and use it as a barber’s razor. ¹  Shave off some of the hair from your head and your beard. ²  Then take scales and divide up the hair you cut off.

You say, “When will the new moon festival ¹  be over, ²  so we can sell grain? When will the Sabbath end, ³  so we can open up the grain bins? ⁴  We’re eager ⁵  to sell less for a higher price, ⁶  and to cheat the buyer with rigged scales! ⁷
