It was the day of preparation ¹  and the Sabbath was beginning. ² 

by fitting your ¹  feet with the preparation that comes from the good news ²  of peace, ³ 

The ¹  next day (which is after the day of preparation) the chief priests and the Pharisees ²  assembled before Pilate

Now ¹  when evening had already come, since it was the day of preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath), ² 

And so, because it was the Jewish day of preparation ¹  and the tomb was nearby, ²  they placed Jesus’ body there.

(Now it was the day of preparation ¹  for the Passover, about noon. ² ) ³  Pilate ⁴  said to the Jewish leaders, ⁵  “Look, here is your king!”

This food should be held in storage for the land in preparation for the seven years of famine that will occur throughout the land of Egypt. In this way the land will survive the famine.” ¹ 

Then, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies should not stay on the crosses on the Sabbath ¹  (for that Sabbath was an especially important one), ²  the Jewish leaders ³  asked Pilate to have the victims’ legs ⁴  broken ⁵  and the bodies taken down. ⁶
