From the stream along the road he drinks; then he lifts up his head. ¹ 

He raises the poor from the dirt, and lifts up the needy from the garbage pile, ¹ 

¹ The Lord supports all who fall, and lifts up all who are bent over. ² 

The Lord lifts up the oppressed, but knocks ¹  the wicked to the ground.

The Lord gives sight to the blind. The Lord lifts up all who are bent over. ¹  The Lord loves the godly.

The Lord protects those residing outside their native land; he lifts up the fatherless and the widow, ¹  but he opposes the wicked. ² 

He lifts a signal flag for a distant nation, ¹  he whistles for it to come from the far regions of the earth. Look, they ²  come quickly and swiftly.

Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales. He lifts ¹  the coastlands ²  as if they were dust.

When the mountains see you, they shake. The torrential downpour sweeps through. ¹  The great deep ²  shouts out; it lifts its hands high. ³ 

He lifts the weak ¹  from the dust; he raises ²  the poor from the ash heap to seat them with princes and to bestow on them an honored position. ³  The foundations of the earth belong to the Lord, and he has placed the world on them.

So the Lord is furious ¹  with his people; he lifts ²  his hand and strikes them. The mountains shake, and corpses lie like manure ³  in the middle of the streets. Despite all this, his anger does not subside, and his hand is ready to strike again. ⁴
