My kinsmen have failed me; my friends ¹  have forgotten me. ² 

So then, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.

So then, my brothers and sisters, ¹  dear friends whom I long to see, my joy and crown, stand in the Lord in this way, my dear friends!

If a man denounces his friends for personal gain, ¹  the eyes of his children will fail.

All my closest friends ¹  detest me; and those whom ²  I love have turned against me. ³ 

I ¹  will reply to you, ²  and to your friends with you.

He ¹  attacks ²  his friends; ³  he breaks his solemn promises to them. ⁴ 

A perverse person ¹  spreads dissension, and a gossip separates the closest friends. ² 

The one who forgives ¹  an offense seeks ²  love, but whoever repeats a matter separates close friends. ³ 

Wealth adds many friends, but a poor person is separated ¹  from his friend. ² 

Do not make friends with an angry person, ¹  and do not associate with a wrathful person,

No one has greater love than this – that one lays down his life ¹  for his friends.

You are my friends ¹  if you do what I command you.

Dear friends, if God so loved us, then ¹  we also ought to love one another. ² 

But you, dear friends – recall the predictions ¹  foretold by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. ² 

Everyone must be on his guard around his friends. He must not even trust any of his relatives. ¹  For every one of them will find some way to cheat him. ²  And all of his friends will tell lies about him.

But I hope to see you right away, and we will speak face to face. ¹  (1:15) Peace be with you. ²  The friends here ³  greet you. Greet the friends ⁴  there ⁵  by name.

Have pity on me, my friends, have pity on me, for the hand of God has struck me.

For all of them, ¹  the morning is to them like deep darkness; they are friends with the terrors of darkness.

Because of my condition, ¹  even my friends and acquaintances keep their distance; ²  my neighbors stand far away. ³
