“It was said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife must give her a legal document.’ ¹ 

So ¹  he told them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.

And if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” ¹ 

Now I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another commits adultery.”

But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries ¹  someone else commits adultery, and the one who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

If the second husband rejects ¹  her and then divorces her, ²  gives her the papers, and evicts her from his house, or if the second husband who married her dies,

“If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him and becomes another man’s wife, he may not take her back again. ¹  Doing that would utterly defile the land. ²  But you, Israel, have given yourself as a prostitute to many gods. ³  So what makes you think you can return to me?” ⁴  says the Lord.
