They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see,

ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell,

They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see,

and ears, but cannot hear. Indeed, they cannot breathe. ¹ 

hands, but cannot touch, feet, but cannot walk. They cannot even clear their throats. ¹ 

The topaz of Cush ¹  cannot be compared with it; it cannot be purchased with pure gold.

Certainly a man cannot rescue his brother; ¹  he cannot pay God an adequate ransom price ² 

What is bent ¹  cannot be straightened, ²  and what is missing ³  cannot be supplied. ⁴ 

Another ¹  said, ‘I just got married, and I cannot come.’ ² 

Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

If ¹  he passes by me, I cannot see ²  him, ³  if he goes by, I cannot perceive him. ⁴ 

Surging waters cannot quench love; floodwaters ¹  cannot overflow it. If someone were to offer all his possessions ²  to buy love, ³  the offer ⁴  would be utterly despised. ⁵ 

all will be put to shame ¹  because of a nation that cannot help them, who cannot give them aid or help, but only shame and disgrace.”

Their webs cannot be used for clothing; they cannot cover themselves with what they make. Their deeds are sinful; they commit violent crimes. ¹ 

But even the swiftest cannot get away. Even the strongest cannot escape. ¹  There in the north by the Euphrates River they stumble and fall in defeat. ² 

Now let the king issue a written interdict ¹  so that it cannot be altered, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be changed. ² 

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot take part in the table of the Lord and the table of demons.

But he added, “You cannot see my face, for no one can ¹  see me and live.” ² 

Indeed, I have received a command ¹  to bless; he has blessed, ²  and I cannot reverse it. ³ 

Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is established, it cannot be moved.
