Therefore, cleanse ¹  your heart and stop being so stubborn! ² 

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.

Manoah said to his wife, “We will certainly die, because we have seen a supernatural being!” ¹ 

Call to mind now: ¹  Who, ²  being innocent, ever perished? ³  And where were upright people ⁴  ever destroyed? ⁵ 

“Do you have eyes of flesh, ¹  or do you see ²  as a human being sees? ³ 

It looks on every haughty being; it is king over all that are proud.” ¹ 

I say to the Lord, “You are the Lord, my only source of well-being.” ¹ 

Grant me the ultimate joy of being forgiven! ¹  May the bones ²  you crushed rejoice! ³ 

Beatings and wounds cleanse away ¹  evil, and floggings cleanse ²  the innermost being. ³ 

Deliver those being taken away to death, and hold back those slipping to the slaughter. ¹ 

The leaders of this nation were misleading people, and the people being led were destroyed. ¹ 

Then the one who appeared to be a human being touched me again ¹  and strengthened me.

The punishment ¹  of Ephraim has been decreed; ²  his punishment is being stored up for the future.

You snakes, you offspring of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? ¹ 

that we, being rescued from the hand of our ¹  enemies, may serve him without fear, ² 

So the churches were being strengthened in the faith and were increasing in number every day. ¹ 

For I delight in the law of God in my inner being.

Let us not become conceited, ¹  provoking ²  one another, being jealous ³  of one another.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us,

In him ¹  the whole building, ²  being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
