He will take pity ¹  on the poor and needy; the lives of the needy he will save.

for the needy are not permanently ignored, ¹  the hopes of the oppressed are not forever dashed. ² 

For I am oppressed and needy, and my heart beats violently within me. ¹ 

Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power ¹  of the wicked!

Open your mouth, judge in righteousness, ¹  and plead the cause ²  of the poor and needy.

I was a father ¹  to the needy, and I investigated the case of the person I did not know;

For the Lord listens to the needy; he does not despise his captive people. ¹ 

Before daybreak ¹  the murderer rises up; he kills the poor and the needy; in the night he is ²  like a thief. ³ 

He will defend ¹  the oppressed among the people; he will deliver ²  the children ³  of the poor and crush the oppressor.

He raises the poor from the dirt, and lifts up the needy from the garbage pile, ¹ 

She extends ¹  her hand ²  to the poor, and reaches out her hand to the needy.

Listen to this, you who trample ¹  the needy, and do away with ²  the destitute in the land.

They turn the needy from the pathway, and the poor of the land hide themselves together. ¹ 

For he will rescue the needy ¹  when they cry out for help, and the oppressed ²  who have no defender.

Do not let the afflicted be turned back in shame! Let the oppressed and poor praise your name! ¹ 

A prayer of David. Listen ²  O Lord! Answer me! For I am oppressed and needy.

because he stands at the right hand of the needy, to deliver him from those who threaten ¹  his life.

So he saves ¹  from the sword that comes from their mouth, ²  even ³  the poor from the hand of the powerful.

It is trampled underfoot by the feet of the oppressed, by the soles of the poor.”

The one who oppresses ¹  the poor insults ²  his Creator, but whoever shows favor ³  to the needy honors him.
