so ¹  I myself will laugh ²  when disaster strikes you, ³  I will mock when what you dread ⁴  comes,

And others experienced mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

Bear with me ¹  and I ²  will speak, and after I have spoken ³  you may mock. ⁴ 

Fools mock ¹  at reparation, ²  but among the upright there is favor. ³ 

The one who mocks the poor ¹  insults ²  his Creator; whoever rejoices over disaster will not go unpunished.

If a scourge brings sudden death, ¹  he mocks ²  at the despair ³  of the innocent. ⁴ 

In ¹  the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law ²  and elders ³  – were mocking him: ⁴ 

For he will be handed over ¹  to the Gentiles; he will be mocked, ²  mistreated, ³  and spat on. ⁴ 

Now ¹  the men who were holding Jesus ²  under guard began to mock him and beat him.

The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, ¹ 

Watch them from morning to evening; ¹  I am the object of their mocking songs.

But others jeered at the speakers, ¹  saying, “They are drunk on new wine!” ² 

Your enemies, O Lord, hurl insults; they insult your chosen king as they dog his footsteps. ¹ 

They will mock him, spit on him, flog ¹  him severely, and kill him. Yet ²  after three days, ³  he will rise again.”

All who see me taunt ¹  me; they mock me ²  and shake their heads. ³ 

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his warnings, ¹  and ridiculed his prophets. ²  Finally the Lord got very angry at his people and there was no one who could prevent his judgment. ³ 

The righteous see their destruction ¹  and rejoice; the innocent mock them scornfully, ²  saying,

“And now I have become their taunt song; I have become a byword ¹  among them.

Those both near and far from you will mock you, you with your bad reputation, ¹  full of turmoil.

and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged severely ¹  and crucified. ²  Yet ³  on the third day, he will be raised.”
