Esther’s command established these matters of Purim, and the matter was officially recorded. ¹ 

I signed the deed of purchase, ¹  sealed it, and had some men serve as witnesses to the purchase. ²  I weighed out the silver for him on a scale.

“‘Then the priest will write these curses on a scroll and then scrape them off into the bitter water. ¹ 

This is why it is said in the Book of the Wars of the Lord, “Waheb in Suphah ¹  and the wadis, the Arnon

They read from the book of God’s law, explaining it ¹  and imparting insight. Thus the people ²  gained understanding from what was read.

“O that ¹  my words were written down, O that they were written on a scroll, ² 

so that he may initiate a search of the records ¹  of his predecessors ²  and discover in those records ³  that this city is rebellious ⁴  and injurious to both kings and provinces, producing internal revolts ⁵  from long ago. ⁶  It is for this very reason that this city was destroyed.

Moreover, the Lord will bring upon you every kind of sickness and plague not mentioned in this scroll of commandments, ¹  until you have perished.

The Lord will single him out ¹  for judgment ²  from all the tribes of Israel according to all the curses of the covenant written in this scroll of the law.

That is why the Lord’s anger erupted against this land, bringing on it all the curses ¹  written in this scroll.

Then ¹  Joshua read aloud all the words of the law, including the blessings and the curses, just as they are written in the law scroll.

Be very strong! Carefully obey ¹  all that is written in the law scroll of Moses so you won’t swerve from it to the right or the left,

Joshua wrote these words in the Law Scroll of God. He then took a large stone and set it up there under the oak tree near the Lord’s shrine.

In the letter he wrote: “Station Uriah in the thick of the battle and then withdraw from him so he will be cut down and killed.”

They reserved the burnt offerings and the cattle for the family divisions of the people to present to the Lord, as prescribed in the scroll of Moses. ¹ 

For one-fourth of the day they stood in their place and read from the book of the law of the LORD their God, and for another fourth they were confessing their sins ¹  and worshiping the LORD their God.

The king then had the matter investigated and, finding it to be so, had the two conspirators ¹  hanged on a gallows. ²  It was then recorded in the daily chronicles in the king’s presence.

So Baruch son of Neriah did exactly what the prophet Jeremiah had told him to do. He read what the Lord had said from the scroll in the temple of the Lord. ¹ 

Micaiah told them everything he had heard Baruch read from the scroll in the hearing of the people. ¹ 

The Lord said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in the ¹  book, and rehearse ²  it in Joshua’s hearing; ³  for I will surely wipe out ⁴  the remembrance ⁵  of Amalek from under heaven.
