The king is strong; he loves justice. ¹  You ensure that legal decisions will be made fairly; ²  you promote justice and equity in Jacob.

“You must not turn away justice for your poor people in their lawsuits.

I would lay out my case ¹  before him and fill my mouth with arguments.

It is not the aged ¹  who are wise, nor old men who understand what is right.

ע (Ayin) I do what is fair and right. ¹  Do not abandon me to my oppressors!

to guard ¹  the paths of the righteous ²  and to protect ³  the way of his pious ones. ⁴ 

I walk in the path of righteousness, in the pathway of justice,

The plans ¹  of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. ² 

Justice will settle down in the desert and fairness will live in the orchard. ¹ 

to deprive a person ¹  of his rights ²  in the presence of the Most High,

The Israelites ¹  turn justice into bitterness; ²  they throw what is fair and right ³  to the ground. ⁴ 

Justice must flow like torrents of water, righteous actions ¹  like a stream that never dries up.

For this reason the law lacks power, ¹  and justice is never carried out. ²  Indeed, ³  the wicked intimidate ⁴  the innocent. ⁵  For this reason justice is perverted. ⁶ 

So these things must be a statutory ordinance ¹  for you throughout your generations, in all the places where you live.

Does God pervert ¹  justice? ²  Or does the Almighty pervert ³  what is right?

See now, ¹  I have prepared ²  my ³  case; ⁴  I know that I am right. ⁵ 

“If ¹  I cry out, ²  ‘Violence!’ ³  I receive no answer; ⁴  I cry for help, but there is no justice.

“If I have disregarded the right of my male servants or my female servants when they disputed ¹  with me,

Let us evaluate ¹  for ourselves what is right; ²  let us come to know among ourselves what is good.

Do you really think ¹  that one who hates justice can govern? ²  And will you declare guilty the supremely righteous ³  One,
