Then he gives a revelation ¹  to people, and terrifies them with warnings, ² 

I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye has seen you. ¹ 

Foreigners are powerless before me; ¹  when they hear of my exploits, they submit to me. ² 

Does not the ear test words, as ¹  the tongue ²  tastes food? ³

For the ear assesses ¹  words as the mouth ²  tastes food.
