He sucks the poison ¹  of serpents; ²  the fangs ³  of a viper ⁴  kill him.

by keeping ¹  you from the evil woman, ²  from the smooth tongue of ³  the loose woman. ⁴ 

The intentions of the heart ¹  belong to a man, ²  but the answer of the tongue ³  comes from ⁴  the Lord. ⁵ 

You will be protected ¹  from malicious gossip, ²  and will not be afraid of the destruction ³  when it comes.

Your sin inspires ¹  your mouth; you choose the language ²  of the crafty. ³ 

You love to use all the words that destroy, ¹  and the tongue that deceives.

How will he severely punish you, you deceptive talker? ¹ 

haughty eyes, ¹  a lying tongue, ²  and hands that shed innocent blood, ³ 

What the righteous say ¹  is like ²  the best ³  silver, but what the wicked think ⁴  is of little value. ⁵

May the Lord cut off ¹  all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts! ² 

so that your feet may stomp ¹  in their blood, and your dogs may eat their portion of the enemies’ corpses.” ² 

For they say cruel and deceptive things to me; they lie to me. ¹ 

A slanderer ¹  will not endure on ²  the earth; calamity will hunt down a violent man and strike him down. ³
