The rich man had a great many flocks and herds.

He chose David, his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds.

The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. ¹ 

Why do you skip like rams, O mountains, like lambs, O hills?

When his brothers had gone to graze their father’s flocks near Shechem,

The seacoast ¹  will be used as pasture lands ²  by the shepherds and as pens for their flocks.

The Lord my God says this: “Shepherd the flock set aside for slaughter.

and he did treat Abram well ¹  on account of her. Abram received ²  sheep and cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

David was going back and forth ¹  from Saul in order to care for his father’s sheep in Bethlehem.

They also attacked the tents of the herdsmen in charge of the livestock. ¹  They carried off many sheep and camels and then returned to Jerusalem. ² 

(They gave their word ¹  to send away their wives; their guilt offering was a ram from the flock for their guilt.)

At that time ¹  a man will keep alive a young cow from the herd and a couple of goats.
