When morning came, ¹  the men and their donkeys were sent off. ² 

After this, he and the men who were with him ate a meal and stayed there overnight. ¹  When they got up in the morning, he said, “Let me leave now so I can return to my master.” ² 

The people ¹  who did not die were struck with sores; the city’s cry for help went all the way up to heaven.

The men are shepherds; ¹  they take care of livestock. ²  They have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.’

But the men ¹  who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against these people, because they are stronger than we are!”

The men whom Moses sent to investigate the land, who returned and made the whole community murmur against him by producing ¹  an evil report about the land,
