From the ends of the earth we ¹  hear songs – the Just One is majestic. ²  But I ³  say, “I’m wasting away! I’m wasting away! I’m doomed! Deceivers deceive, deceivers thoroughly deceive!” ⁴ 

The destroyer is as good as dead, ¹  you who have not been destroyed! The deceitful one is as good as dead, ²  the one whom others have not deceived! When you are through destroying, you will be destroyed; when you finish ³  deceiving, others will deceive you!

But, you have been unfaithful to me, nation of Israel, ¹  like an unfaithful wife who has left her husband,” ²  says the Lord.

For the nations of Israel and Judah ¹  have been very unfaithful to me,” says the Lord.

They were unfaithful ¹  and acted as treacherously as ²  their ancestors; they were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow. ³ 

but the wicked ¹  will be removed ²  from the land, and the treacherous ³  will be torn away ⁴  from it.

The integrity of the upright guides them, ¹  but the crookedness of the unfaithful destroys them. ² 

The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, ¹  but the faithless will be captured ²  by their own desires. ³ 

The wicked become ¹  a ransom ²  for the righteous, and the faithless ³  are taken ⁴  in the place of the upright.

I have received a distressing message: ¹  “The deceiver deceives, the destroyer destroys. Attack, you Elamites! Lay siege, you Medes! I will put an end to all the groaning!” ² 

My brothers ¹  have been as treacherous ²  as a seasonal stream, ³  and as the riverbeds of the intermittent streams ⁴  that flow away. ⁵ 

Certainly none who rely on you will be humiliated. Those who deal in treachery will be thwarted ¹  and humiliated.

If I had publicized these thoughts, ¹  I would have betrayed your loyal followers. ² 

I take note of the treacherous and despise them, because they do not keep your instructions. ¹ 

From the fruit of his speech ¹  a person eats good things, ²  but the faithless ³  desire ⁴  the fruit of violence. ⁵ 

Keen insight ¹  wins ²  favor, but the conduct ³  of the unfaithful is harsh. ⁴ 

The eyes of the Lord ¹  guard knowledge, ²  but he overthrows the words of the faithless person. ³ 

Indeed, she lies in wait like a robber, ¹  and increases the unfaithful ²  among men. ³ 

Like a bad tooth or a foot out of joint, ¹  so is confidence ²  in an unfaithful person at the time of trouble. ³ 

At Adam ¹  they broke ²  the covenant; Oh how ³  they were unfaithful ⁴  to me!
