Now the famine was severe in the land. ¹ 

There was a famine in the land, so Abram went down to Egypt ¹  to stay for a while ²  because the famine was severe. ³ 

In time of famine ¹  he will redeem you from death, and in time of war from the power of the sword. ² 

by saving their lives from death ¹  and sustaining them during times of famine. ² 

Our skin is hot as an oven due to a fever from hunger. ¹ 

There was a famine in the land, subsequent to the earlier famine that occurred ¹  in the days of Abraham. ²  Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines at Gerar.

But seven years of famine will occur ¹  after them, and all the abundance will be forgotten in the land of Egypt. The famine will devastate ²  the land.

This food should be held in storage for the land in preparation for the seven years of famine that will occur throughout the land of Egypt. In this way the land will survive the famine.” ¹ 

Then the seven years of famine began, ¹  just as Joseph had predicted. There was famine in all the other lands, but throughout the land of Egypt there was food.

While the famine was over all the earth, ¹  Joseph opened the storehouses ²  and sold grain to the Egyptians. The famine was severe throughout the land of Egypt.

But there was no food in all the land because the famine was very severe; the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan wasted away ¹  because of the famine.

The sword is outside; pestilence and famine are inside the house. Whoever is in the open field will die by the sword, and famine and pestilence will consume everyone in the city.

So Elijah went to make an appearance before Ahab. Now the famine was severe in Samaria. ¹ 

He called down a famine upon the earth; he cut off all the food supply. ¹ 

People from every country ¹  came to Joseph in Egypt to buy grain because the famine was severe throughout the earth.

So Israel’s sons came to buy grain among the other travelers, ¹  for the famine was severe in the land of Canaan.

By the ninth day of the fourth month ¹  the famine in the city was so severe the residents ²  had no food.

There were others who said, “We are putting up our fields, our vineyards, and our houses as collateral in order to obtain grain during the famine.”

Therefore my ¹  people will be deported ²  because of their lack of understanding. Their ³  leaders will have nothing to eat, ⁴  their ⁵  masses will have nothing to drink. ⁶ 

The poor will graze in my pastures; ¹  the needy will rest securely. But I will kill your root by famine; it will put to death all your survivors. ²
