a trembling ¹  gripped me – and a terror! – and made all my bones shake. ² 

Terrifying sounds fill ¹  his ears; in a time of peace marauders ²  attack him.

“Dominion ¹  and awesome might ²  belong to ³  God; he establishes peace in his heights. ⁴ 

My body ¹  trembles ²  because I fear you; ³  I am afraid of your judgments.

Terror, pit, and snare are ready to overtake you inhabitants of the earth! ¹ 

Panic and pitfall ¹  have come upon us, devastation and destruction. ² 

They are absolutely terrified, ¹  even by things that do not normally cause fear. ²  For God annihilates ³  those who attack you. ⁴  You are able to humiliate them because God has rejected them. ⁵ 

For the very thing I dreaded ¹  has happened ²  to me, and what I feared has come upon me. ³ 

Would not his splendor ¹  terrify ²  you and the fear he inspires ³  fall on you?

Their houses are safe ¹  and without fear; ²  and no rod of punishment ³  from God is upon them. ⁴ 

That is why snares surround you, and why sudden fear terrifies you,

For the calamity from God was a terror to me, ¹  and by reason of his majesty ²  I was powerless.

She is harsh ¹  with her young, as if they were not hers; she is unconcerned about the uselessness of her labor.

It laughs at fear and is not dismayed; it does not shy away from the sword.

They are absolutely terrified, ¹  for God defends the godly. ² 

You need not fear the terrors of the night, ¹  the arrow that flies by day,

Egypt was happy when they left, for they were afraid of them. ¹ 

so ¹  I myself will laugh ²  when disaster strikes you, ³  I will mock when what you dread ⁴  comes,

But the one who listens ¹  to me will live in security, ²  and will be at ease ³  from the dread of harm.

You will not be afraid ¹  of sudden ²  disaster, ³  or when destruction overtakes ⁴  the wicked; ⁵
