When a wicked person dies, his expectation perishes, ¹  and the hope of his strength ²  perishes. ³ 

The Israelites said to Moses, “We are bound to die! ¹  We perish, we all perish!

You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will consume you.

A ruler will be established from Jacob; he will destroy the remains of the city.’” ¹ 

How the warriors have fallen! The weapons of war ¹  are destroyed!

By the breath ¹  of God they perish, ²  and by the blast ³  of his anger they are consumed.

Caravans ¹  turn aside from their routes; they go ²  into the wasteland ³  and perish. ⁴ 

He makes nations great, ¹  and destroys them; he extends the boundaries of nations and disperses ²  them. ³

If I had not found encouragement in your law, ¹  I would have died in my sorrow. ² 

The wicked prepare to kill me, ¹  yet I concentrate on your rules.

The hope ¹  of the righteous is joy, but the expectation of the wicked will remain unfulfilled. ² 

Give strong drink to the one who is perishing, ¹  and wine to those who are bitterly distressed; ² 

So I said, “My endurance has expired; I have lost all hope of deliverance ¹  from the Lord.”

Just like the nations the Lord is about to destroy from your sight, so he will do to you ¹  because you would not obey him. ² 

For Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised plans against the Jews to destroy them. He had cast pur (that is, the lot) in order to afflict and destroy them.

They are a nation devoid of wisdom, and there is no understanding among them.

In Susa the citadel the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men.

“Let the day on which ¹  I was born ²  perish, and the night that said, ³  ‘A man ⁴  has been conceived!’ ⁵ 

The mighty lion ¹  perishes ²  for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness ³  are scattered.
