The workers of the city from all the tribes of Israel will cultivate it.

Then once more you will see that I make a distinction between ¹  the righteous and the wicked, between the one who serves God and the one who does not.

and they ¹  made the Israelites serve rigorously. ² 

For six days ¹  you may labor ²  and do all your work, ³ 

This is the service of the families of Gershonites, as they serve ¹  and carry it.

You are to work and do all your tasks in six days,

They abandoned the Lord and worshiped Baal and the Ashtars. ¹

You know that I’ve worked for your father as hard as I could, ¹ 

You must revere the Lord your God, serve him, and take oaths using only his name.

If you have no desire ¹  to worship ²  the Lord, choose today whom you will worship, ³  whether it be the gods whom your ancestors ⁴  worshiped ⁵  beyond the Euphrates, ⁶  or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But I and my family ⁷  will worship ⁸  the Lord!”
