You must count seven weeks; you must begin to count them ¹  from the time you begin to harvest the standing grain.

Your mind will recall the terror you experienced, ¹  and you will ask yourselves, ²  “Where is the scribe? Where is the one who weighs the money? Where is the one who counts the towers?” ³ 

Sheva was the scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar were the priests.

“I will explain to you; listen to me, and what ¹  I have seen, I will declare, ² 

then he looked at wisdom ¹  and assessed its value; ²  he established ³  it and examined it closely. ⁴ 

Do you count the months they must fulfill, and do you know the time they give birth? ¹

Walk around ¹  Zion! Encircle it! Count its towers!

What we have heard and learned ¹  – that which our ancestors ²  have told us –

Is your loyal love proclaimed in the grave, or your faithfulness in the place of the dead? ¹ 

Tell the nations about his splendor! Tell ¹  all the nations about his amazing deeds!

Let them present thank offerings, and loudly proclaim what he has done! ¹ 

With my lips I proclaim all the regulations you have revealed. ¹ 

I told you about my ways ¹  and you answered me. Teach me your statutes!

If I tried to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. Even if I finished counting them, I would still have to contend with you. ¹ 

They will proclaim ¹  the power of your awesome acts! I will declare your great deeds!

After a priest ¹  has become ceremonially clean, they ²  must count off a period of seven days for him.
