David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Should I pursue this raiding band? Will I overtake them?” He said to him, “Pursue, for you will certainly overtake them and carry out a rescue!”

When the man ¹  overtook them, he spoke these words to them.

Men ¹  move boundary stones; they seize the flock and pasture them. ² 

Terrors overwhelm him like a flood; ¹  at night a whirlwind carries him off.

Threshing season will extend for you until the season for harvesting grapes, ¹  and the season for harvesting grapes will extend until sowing season, so ²  you will eat your bread until you are satisfied, ³  and you will live securely in your land.

Whoever strikes it with a sword ¹  will have no effect, ²  nor with the spear, arrow, or dart.

I chase my enemies and catch ¹  them; I do not turn back until I wipe them out.

Pour out your judgment ¹  on them! May your raging anger ²  overtake them!

None who go in to her will return, ¹  nor will they reach the paths of life. ² 

The enemy said, ‘I will chase, ¹  I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my desire ²  will be satisfied on them. I will draw ³  my sword, my hand will destroy them.’ ⁴ 

“He will then make one of the turtledoves ¹  or young pigeons, which are within his means, ² 

This is the law of the one in whom there is a diseased infection, ¹  who does not have sufficient means for his purification.” ² 

If a man has no redeemer, but he prospers ¹  and gains enough for its redemption, ² 

All these blessings will come to you in abundance ¹  if you obey the Lord your God:

may an enemy relentlessly chase ¹  me ²  and catch me; ³  may he trample me to death ⁴  and leave me lying dishonored in the dust. ⁵  (Selah)

Laban overtook Jacob, and when Jacob pitched his tent in the hill country of Gilead, Laban and his relatives set up camp there too. ¹ 

and two turtledoves or two young pigeons, ¹  which are within his means. ²  One will be a sin offering and the other a burnt offering. ³ 

a sin offering and the other a burnt offering along with the grain offering. ¹  So the priest is to make atonement for the one being cleansed before the Lord.

“‘If a resident foreigner who is with you prospers ¹  and your brother becomes impoverished with regard to him so that ²  he sells himself to a resident foreigner who is with you or to a member ³  of a foreigner’s family,

or his uncle or his cousin ¹  may redeem him, or anyone of the rest of his blood relatives – his family ²  – may redeem him, or if ³  he prospers he may redeem himself.
