God said, ¹  “Let there be ²  light.” ³  And there was light!

For you are the one who gives and sustains life. ¹ 

God saw ¹  that the light was good, ²  so God separated ³  the light from the darkness.

When morning came, ¹  the men and their donkeys were sent off. ² 

They grope about in darkness ¹  without light; he makes them stagger ²  like drunkards.

The light in his tent grows dark; his lamp above him is extinguished. ¹ 

He is driven ¹  from light into darkness and is banished from the world.

He has searched ¹  the sources ²  of the rivers and what was hidden he has brought into the light.

Then from the wicked the light is withheld, and the arm raised in violence ¹  is broken. ² 

He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause. ¹ 

The godly bask in the light; the morally upright experience joy. ¹ 

He covers himself with light as if it were a garment. He stretches out the skies like a tent curtain,

נ (Nun) Your word ¹  is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path. ² 

to the one who made the great lights, for his loyal love endures,

The light ¹  of the righteous shines brightly, ²  but the lamp ³  of the wicked goes out. ⁴ 

O descendants ¹  of Jacob, come, let us walk in the Lord’s guiding light. ² 

The light of the full moon will be like the sun’s glare and the sun’s glare will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, ¹  when the Lord binds up his people’s fractured bones ²  and heals their severe wound. ³ 

Nations come to your light, kings to your bright light.

He drove me into captivity ¹  and made me walk ²  in darkness and not light.

Those who call evil good and good evil are as good as dead, ¹  who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter. ²
