So he went with them. When they arrived at the Jordan, they started cutting down trees.

The waters closed over my head; I thought ¹  I was about to die. ² 

Whatever you decide ¹  on a matter, it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways.

to the one who divided ¹  the Red Sea ²  in two, ³  for his loyal love endures,

The king then said, “Cut the living child in two, and give half to one and half to the other!”

When these things had been accomplished ¹  and the rage of King Ahasuerus had diminished, he remembered ²  Vashti and what she had done and what had been decided ³  against her.

When ¹  the fig tree does not bud, and there are no grapes on the vines; when the olive trees do not produce, ²  and the fields yield no crops; ³  when the sheep disappear ⁴  from the pen, and there are no cattle in the stalls,

The real mother ¹  spoke up to the king, for her motherly instincts were aroused. ²  She said, “My master, give her the living child! Whatever you do, don’t kill him!” ³  But the other woman said, “Neither one of us will have him! Let them cut him in two!”
