influenced by the hypocrisy of liars ¹  whose consciences are seared. ² 

Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath of the authorities ¹  but also because of your conscience. ² 

Eat anything that is sold in the marketplace without questions of conscience,

To do this ¹  you must hold firmly to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck in regard to the faith.

For this finds God’s favor, ¹  if because of conscience toward God ²  someone endures hardships in suffering unjustly.

This is the reason ¹  I do my best to always ²  have a clear ³  conscience toward God and toward people. ⁴ 

If you sin against your brothers or sisters ¹  in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

For otherwise would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers would have been purified once for all and so have ¹  no further consciousness of sin?

Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to conduct ourselves rightly in every respect.

If an unbeliever invites you to dinner and you want to go, eat whatever is served without asking questions of conscience.

But if someone says to you, “This is from a sacrifice,” do not eat, because of the one who told you and because of conscience ¹  –

I do not mean yours but the other person’s. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience?

This was a symbol for the time then present, when gifts and sacrifices were offered that could not perfect the conscience of the worshiper.

Yet do it with courtesy and respect, ¹  keeping a good conscience, so that those who slander your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame when they accuse you. ² 

But we have rejected ¹  shameful hidden deeds, ²  not behaving ³  with deceptiveness ⁴  or distorting the word of God, but by open proclamation of the truth we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience before God.

how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our ¹  consciences from dead works to worship the living God.
