So ¹  Pilate ²  decided ³  that their demand should be granted.

Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

Then Pilate said to him, “Don’t you hear how many charges they are bringing against you?”

Pilate said to them, “Take ¹  a guard of soldiers. Go and make it as secure as you can.”

Now when Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.

Then ¹  Pilate called together the chief priests, the ²  rulers, and the people,

Pilate addressed them once again because he wanted ¹  to release Jesus.

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged severely. ¹ 

When Pilate heard what they said, ¹  he was more afraid than ever, ² 

Pilate said to them, “Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Christ?” ¹  They all said, “Crucify him!” ² 

He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. ¹  Then Pilate ordered that it be given to him.

So Pilate asked him again, ¹  “Have you nothing to say? See how many charges they are bringing against you!”

So Pilate asked them, ¹  “Do you want me to release the king of the Jews for you?”

Pilate asked them, “Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted more insistently, “Crucify him!”

Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. He ¹  called the centurion and asked him if he had been dead for some time.

Then ¹  Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no basis for an accusation ²  against this man.”

So Pilate came outside to them and said, “What accusation ¹  do you bring against this man?” ² 

So after they had assembled, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you, Jesus ¹  Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Christ?” ² 

So ¹  Pilate asked him, “Are you the king ²  of the Jews?” He replied, ³  “You say so.” ⁴ 

So Pilate spoke to them again, ¹  “Then what do you want me to do ²  with the one you call king of the Jews?”
