And do not lead us into temptation, ¹  but deliver us from the evil one. ² 

So ¹  when the devil ²  had completed every temptation, he departed from him until a more opportune time. ³ 

When he came to the place, ¹  he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” ²

Dear friends, do not be astonished ¹  that a trial by fire is occurring among you, ²  as though something strange were happening to you.

and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins ¹  against us. And do not lead us into temptation.” ² 

and though my physical condition put you to the test, you did not despise or reject me. ¹  Instead, you welcomed me as though I were an angel of God, ²  as though I were Christ Jesus himself! ³ 

Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

Happy is the one ¹  who endures testing, because when he has proven to be genuine, he will receive the crown of life that God ²  promised to those who love him.
