So ¹  Pilate ²  decided ³  that their demand should be granted.

How then would the scriptures that say it must happen this way be fulfilled?”

Nicodemus replied, ¹  “How can these things be?” ² 

Jesus said to them, “I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  before Abraham came into existence, ²  I am!” ³ 

I have told you now before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. ¹
