Although they claimed ¹  to be wise, they became fools

In this way ¹  they will train ²  the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children,

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave ¹  –

and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave ¹  of all.

But ¹  he said to them, “How is it that they say that the Christ ²  is David’s son? ³ 

A dispute also started ¹  among them over which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. ² 

From there we put out to sea ¹  and sailed under the lee ²  of Cyprus because the winds were against us.

and if you are convinced ¹  that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,

So then whether we are alive ¹  or away, we make it our ambition to please him. ² 

Tell me, you who want to be under the law, do you not understand the law? ¹ 

For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

so that we, who were the first to set our hope ¹  on Christ, ²  would be to the praise of his glory.

¹ who though he existed in the form of God ²  did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped,

But I do not allow ¹  a woman to teach or exercise authority ²  over a man. She must remain quiet. ³ 

Tell them to do good, ¹  to be rich in good deeds, to be generous givers, sharing with others. ² 

And the Lord’s slave ¹  must not engage in heated disputes ²  but be kind toward all, an apt teacher, patient,

Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, ¹  sound in faith, in love, and in endurance. ² 

Slaves ¹  are to be subject to their own masters in everything, ²  to do what is wanted and not talk back,

Remind them to be subject to rulers and ¹  authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work.
