When ¹  the plants sprouted and bore grain, then the weeds also appeared.

But these words seemed like pure nonsense ¹  to them, and they did not believe them.

For if God did not spare the natural branches, perhaps he will not spare you.

And if the righteous are barely saved, what will become of ¹  the ungodly and sinners? ² 

Then Herod ¹  privately summoned the wise men and determined from them when the star had appeared.

After Herod ¹  had died, an ²  angel of the Lord ³  appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt

In the same way, on the outside you look righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

You have heard the blasphemy! What is your verdict?” ¹  They all condemned him as deserving death.

After the demon was cast out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowds were amazed and said, “Never has anything like this been seen in Israel!”

“Woe to you, experts in the law ¹  and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs that look beautiful on the outside but inside are full of the bones of the dead and of everything unclean. ² 

For just like the lightning ¹  comes from the east and flashes to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.

He was a lamp that was burning and shining, ¹  and you wanted to rejoice greatly for a short time ²  in his light.

so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without blemish though you live in a crooked and perverse society, in which you shine as lights in the world ¹ 

You ¹  do not know about tomorrow. What is your life like? ²  For you are a puff of smoke ³  that appears for a short time and then vanishes.

“Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues ¹  and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.

“When ¹  you fast, do not look sullen like the hypocrites, for they make their faces unattractive ²  so that people will see them fasting. I tell you the truth, ³  they have their reward.
