“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ ¹ 

Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult, but instead bless ¹  others ²  because you were called to inherit a blessing.

For we have all received from his fullness one gracious gift after another. ¹ 

Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people. ¹ 

What father among you, if your ¹  son asks for ²  a fish, will give him a snake ³  instead of a fish?

Immediately an angel of the Lord ¹  struck ²  Herod ³  down because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died. ⁴

See that no one pays back evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.

and with every kind of evil deception directed against ¹  those who are perishing, because they found no place in their hearts for the truth ²  so as to be saved.

But when he heard that Archelaus ¹  was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, ²  he was afraid to go there. After being warned in a dream, he went to the regions of Galilee.

And now, ¹  because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time, ²  you will be silent, unable to speak, ³  until the day these things take place.”

So then ¹  whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered ²  in private rooms ³  will be proclaimed from the housetops. ⁴ 

They will demolish you ¹  – you and your children within your walls ²  – and they will not leave within you one stone ³  on top of another, ⁴  because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.” ⁵ 

keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. ¹
