“I am the good ¹  shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life ²  for the sheep.

and all who heard it were astonished ¹  at what the shepherds said.

The one who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

“I am the good shepherd. I ¹  know my own ²  and my own know me –

It was he ¹  who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, ² 

For you were going astray like sheep ¹  but now you have turned back to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.

When ¹  he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were bewildered and helpless, ²  like sheep without a shepherd.

All ¹  the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate people one from another like a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

As Jesus ¹  came ashore ²  he saw the large crowd and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So ³  he taught them many things.

Then ¹  Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ ² 

Now ¹  there were shepherds ²  nearby ³  living out in the field, keeping guard ⁴  over their flock at night.

So ¹  the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising ²  God for all they had heard and seen; everything was just as they had been told. ³ 

Now may the God of peace who by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus Christ,

Then Jesus said to them, “This night you will all fall away because of me, for it is written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ ¹ 

The hired hand, ¹  who is not a shepherd and does not own sheep, sees the wolf coming and abandons ²  the sheep and runs away. ³  So the wolf attacks ⁴  the sheep and scatters them.

I have ¹  other sheep that do not come from ²  this sheepfold. ³  I must bring them too, and they will listen to my voice, ⁴  so that ⁵  there will be one flock and ⁶  one shepherd.

When ¹  the angels left them and went back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem ²  and see this thing that has taken place, that the Lord ³  has made known to us.”
